Financial Independence, Retire Early

What is Barista FIRE?

Barista FIRE combines investment withdrawals with income from part-time work. That income covers part of your spending, leaving a smaller gap for the portfolio to fund.

How the target is calculated

Maximum of (annual expenses − part-time income, 0) ÷ withdrawal rate = Barista FIRE target

An illustrative example

With $40,000 in annual expenses, $20,000 in part-time income, and an illustrative 4% withdrawal rate, the portfolio target is $500,000.

What to keep in mind

Income availability, taxes, and benefits vary. The calculator assumes the income you enter continues; it does not simulate job loss or changing work hours.

These calculations are educational estimates. They use steady returns, not historical simulations, and do not model retirement withdrawals year by year. A 4% withdrawal rate is an illustrative assumption, not a guaranteed outcome.
